John R. McKay of Philadelphia passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Hospice Care. He was 91 years old..
He is the devoted father of Elaine Walton, John McKay, Mary Ellen (John Youells) and Joseph McKay. John is the loving grandfather of Michael (Tanya) and Kevin (Tina) Walton and proud great-grandfather of Kyla, Magdalena, Emery and James Walton. He is the dear brother of Elaine Lennon and Shirley Silcox, He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances McKay (Hussmann); his beloved wife, Mary E. “Marie” (Well) McKay; daughter, Ann; son-in-law, George Walton; and brothers, Tom and Richard.
He was honorably discharged from the Navy, serving from 1943 to 1953 during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a Philadelphia firefighter, retiring in 1975 as Captain, after 28 years of service. He was a Lifetime member of Hilltop AA.
John donated his body to science (Science Care).
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, June 3, 2017 after 9:00AM at the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home, 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike, Ambler, PA Johns Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham.
In lieu of flowers, John’s request was to have remembrances made to the Fire Fighter Widow’s Fund, 415 N. 5th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123
