Two motorcyclists hurt in wreck on Route 78 near Exit 24
Two people were injured this morning when their motorcycle crashed on Route 78 eastbound near Exit 24 (Oldwick) around 11 a.m.
Dennis Douglass, 62 and Carol Douglass, 67, both of Perkasie, Pa., were flown away by Atlantic Air helicopter to Morristown Medical Center. One of the victims was initially unconscious, according to an emergency radio report. The helicopter landed on the highway to pick them up.
The accident was originally thought to be in Tewksbury Township but it turned out to be slightly to the east in Readington. Whitehouse Rescue Squad and paramedics from Hunterdon Medical Center responded, as did volunteer firefighters who set up the landing zone for the helicopter.
The accident resulted in massive traffic backups. All the lanes were closed eastbound for a while; finally all were in use again by 1:30 p.m., State Police reported.
The victims were both admitted to the Morristown hospital and listed in stable condition. The extent of their injuries was not known.
Because of the severity of the accident, both the Fatal Accident and Crime Scene units of the State Police responded.
The cause of the accident was not immediately known; the investigation was continuing, a spokesman at the trooper headquarters in West Trenton reported around 4:15 p.m.

I am a retired wife, grandmother and sister living in Perkasie. I love riding with my Denny on trips anywhere and everywhere and also with my “old” Coopersburg HOG group, the Legion Riders and am looking forward to rides with our new IVHog group. It’s fun to make memories with the people on all the rides. I’m sooo looking forward to a new year of riding ( if it ever stops being so friggin’ cold 🙂 everyone RIDE SAFE!!
